Hi, I'm Sara. Sligar pronounced like tiger. I am a fiction writer and academic based in Los Angeles.
My debut novel, Take Me Apart, is forthcoming from MCD Books / Farrar, Straus, and Giroux in April 2020. It follows a young archivist whose obsession with a photographer's mysterious death threatens to destroy her fragile new life in northern California. My second novel is also forthcoming from MCD/FSG.
I teach English and creative writing at the University of Southern California as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Society of Fellows. I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and my research focuses on 20th- and 21st-century American fiction, film, and television. My academic book project studies the development of the legal procedural genre in the context of historical changes to American criminal procedure. Kind of like a pre-history of Law & Order. You can read more about my research interests here.
In my spare time, I hang out with my awesome rescue dog, make deeply mediocre pottery, and dream about going on the TV show Nailed It! and wowing everyone with my terrible cake decorations.
